What are the games that are part of the SmartUs environment?Up

The four games belonging to the game collection are:

- Conquistador
- PointCollection
- SpeedGame and
- AnimalPuzzle

How / where do I find the games that can be played and their manuals?

You will find an illustrated manual and instructions for the games on the start screen of the iStation using the ‘I' symbol and a short overview on the Games page.

How can I log in and play a game with a team?

You log in at the central iStation and choose the game you would like to play.
Before the game commences, the players decide on a team ID together, and each player alternately logs into his or her own team.

Where in the SmartUs environment do I find the different images?

In each iPost, there is a different image collection used in the games.
The images can be found in the rotating window of all poles.

Why don't I get any score when I run past the iPost?

The reading of your iCard takes some time at the iPost.
If you just flip your iCard, there is a possibility that you were too fast.
The iPost gives an audible signal when your ID is read.
Slow down a bit and you will get your score!

What can I do when somebody is already using the iGrid? Up

You can add activity points to your account by showing your iCard to iPosts.
You can do this even if some other players are playing a game including the iPosts!

How do I start a recovery action at the iStation?

In order to restart:

1. Press the upper button on the right hand side of the iStation ten times
2. Press the button once again
3. Wait for about one minute until the system has recovered.

How do I turn the iStation ‘on'?

You press the upper button on the right hand side of the iStation and wait for about one minute, until the start screen appears.

Up
Can I use an iCard without/before registering?

Yes, you can!
And you can start collecting points before you register your card.
As soon as you register here, these points will be added to your account.

Can I develop my own games and how?

The SmartUs environment comprises two game building tools, operating at your PC workstation.
With these programs, LinkIt and PlayCreator, you can create a functional content for the SmartUs environment.

Can you give an example for a new game that could be created?

You need an idea first, e.g. whether you want to create a "nature game", a "Christmas game" or a "category game".
For instance choose the LinkIt tool, to create games and tasks played on the SmartUs iGrid.
The tool is easy to use, and you can develop playful content for learning, moving and playing.

What is the standard resolution for picture files used for the game creating tools? Up

The standard resolution for the pictures would be either of the following resolutions for games developed with LinkIt/PlayCreator:

- 128 x 128 ( only for PlayCreator games )
- 256 x 256
- 512 x 512
AttentionAttention: Mind the square format and save your pictures as .jpg files.

What do I have to consider when saving picture files for a game created with one of the game creating tools?

Remember the standard resolutions and even more important the naming of your file.
There will not be any preview available of your saved picture so make sure you pick a file name allowing you to find what you are looking for (e.g. category: nature; examples: oak, birch, maple...).

AttentionAttention: Please take care, to determine whether the used image is subject to any copyright claims, if you choose a picture that has not been downloaded from our page.

What shall I do when problems appear while assigning text, image or sound into a drag-drop module in PlayCreator?

Sometimes when you try to insert text, image or sound via drag-and-drop module, PlayCreator seems to freeze.
This is due to a dialog box opening somewhere outside your screen space.
This is a known bug and it will be repaired in no time.

How to react?

Press the ESC-button on your keyboard.
Then drag the module to left top corner of your workspace and enter the content again.

Can I operate the SmartUs iGrid by jumping on one of the operational tiles (triangle, circle and square)?

Yes indeed!
The operational tile with a triangle on it is for starting a game and getting play instructions.
The operational tile with a square is for quitting the game and going back to the game menu view.
The operational tile with a circle is not yet connected to a function.

Up
Can the ready-made games in the iStation be used in the classroom?

The six games that come with the product are kind of amusing examples of what can be done with SmartUs.
The real potential lies in creating your own content with the PlayCreator and LinkIt software tools.
